I haven’t had anything to blog about lately, until today. I talk to myself a lot. If I put my thoughts into words, filled with unanswered questions, I would have a book.
This has been one crazy week here in Michigan. It was midterm and time to vote! Talk about a confusing. The ballot was so long filled with different proposals, it was hard to research and read everything. I do know it’s time for a change. In fact, people need to change!
Just because we are baby boomers and winding down doesn’t make world events less stressful. In fact, quite the opposite. What is fueling all of this anger? Was it always like this and I never noticed before? But how could I not notice?
Very seldom do we hear about good news any more. Bombings, mass shootings, horrible atrocities are front and center! Was the world always like this and I’m just now noticing? I can’t be the only one. As I was waiting in line to vote this week, I overheard a woman say “I wish we all could be nicer to each other I’m so tired of all this hatred“. Shouldn’t that be a given??
There are so many factions who believe they are righteous – they are plotting for the next horrific event. How does a person decide to get up one day and go shoot up a nightclub filled with innocent people who just want to have a good time? What purpose does it serve to take out a bunch of people with you if you want to take your own life? I don’t get it.
Has logic flown the coop?? How does a child grow into an adult and plan a killing spree? Is it possible they know something we don’t? Are there signs we as a society are overlooking? And even if there were, how could we help?
What makes a father get out of bed in the morning and decide that he must kill his whole family? I can’t even fathom. So as a people do the bad now outweigh the good? And if so, why is that? Has the majority been silent too long, hoping that some super hero will step in and fix everything?
No longer can we sit idly by in our little corner of the world and say “that’s terrible” and go about our day. As individuals we have no power, but as a community we have great power to effect change. The question is: Do we want change? Or are we satisfied with the status quo?
Do we blame the media? Listen to the news as they stream for hours only repeating what was disclosed in the first 10 minutes of the show. Personally, I think media is invasive and lacks common decency. Stations are driven by statistics, how many people will watch their station. When did news stop being news? Has sensationalism replaced facts?
It can’t be in the water we are drinking, can it? If that’s the case, then we are all in big trouble! So what is the cause?
I don’t know the answer to these questions. But I do know when to say enough is enough and it’s enough already. I’m so tired of being suspicious of everything and everybody when I leave my house. I don’t want to be afraid that somebody is going to lose it in a Meijer parking lot and decide to shoot up the place because of some misconceived, misplaced anger.
I do know one-act of kindness goes a long way, and perhaps that is where the answer lies.
Every country has its issues of violence and unrest, but when do we let the few outnumber the many? I believe we are many, we are silent because it’s just so much easier to ride it out as long as it doesn’t affect you. Thousands flee their country to find a better place to live, free of oppression and violence. A better place for their children. Is better in another country? Not necessarily. Each country has its own issues. Wouldn’t it be better if those masses of people stood up and say enough!
If people flee and not stand their ground, it’s like cancer, it spreads. And before you know it that dark cloud continues to grow until there is no place left to flee. It’s so easy to say “well, it’s not my problem”. But it is our problem!
And then I ask myself, is this preordained? Is this supposed to happen that the world one day will simply implode? That some crazy person will Google instructions to make some concoction that will kill all human and animal kind?
I know it sounds like a syfy plot, but have you watched T.V. lately?
Thanks for indulging my rant.
