It’s Hot Outside
Summer officially began June 21, and this weekend it’s going to be in the 90’s. This time of year there are always a few news stories about stroke and/or heart attacks or cases of severe dehydration in seniors. My mother hated drinking water, she was a coffee drinker for most of her adult life. I would buy little bottles of water in the summer so she wouldn’t get dehydrated when she sat outside. Let’s face it, drinking plain old water just isn’t exciting. Older adults are more susceptible to fluid and electrolyte imbalances, and those affected with dementia or Alzheimer’s may forget to eat or drink. Medications can also adversely affect an older person.
I saw a video a while ago about infusing fruits, vegetables and herbs to create a refreshing drink with just a hint of citrus flavor and decided to give it a try with herbs from my garden and some fruit sitting in the refrigerator. I really enjoyed the change of pace and the hint of the citrus and herbs together, not to mention herbs can help with digestion issues. Writing about it and actually seeing how good it looks makes a difference, so I made a little YouTube video to share with everyone. I hope you enjoy it.
